Alexi "Wildchild" Laiho was a Finnish singer, composer, and guitarist. He was best known as the lead guitarist/lead vocalist of melodic death/power metal band Children of Bodom. He also occasionally played with Thy Serpent, Sinergy, Kylähullut, and Impaled Nazarene.
In February 2002, in a private ceremony in Finland, Alexi married Kimberly Goss, frontwoman of the band Sinergy, having dated for four years prior to marriage. They, however, separated in 2004, but remain close friends.
On April 26th, 2009, after a show at Dallas' Palladium Ballroom, Laiho broke his wrist after falling from his bunk when the tour bus took a sharp turn. While originally planning to continue their North American No Fear Energy Tour despite the injury, its seriousness forced Children of Bodom to cancel the tour's last six dates.
Alexi was featured on the cover of Young Guitar magazine several times and has been on the cover of Guitar World along with Steve Vai and Zakk Wylde. In addition to the cover, Guitar World ranked him as one of the fifty fastest guitarists in the world. He was ranked by Roadrunner Records as #41 out of 50 of "The Greatest Metal Frontmen of All Time".
When Children of Bodom played the 2008 Metal Hammer Golden Gods Awards, Laiho received the Dimebag Award for "Best Shredder" and performed a track off Children of Bodom's 2008 Blooddrunk album. Alexi is known for having written the lyrics for the early Children of Bodom albums in the studio just before recording.
His "Wildchild" nickname is derived from the W.A.S.P. song "Wild Child" and he even has a clothing line called Wild Child Industries.
Laiho's first guitar was a Tokai Stratocaster.
