I just waited on hold on the phone with the court for 3 hours before I googled I’d there a holiday today😂
I have never heard of It before in my life I Is figured it would be something like this
This is nothing new in Texas. I know of a man who, every year on this date, would throw a picnic for his servants to commemorate the event. They thought very highly of him.
we weren't called african american until the 1980's lol Free people DON'T march for civil rights or do they protest that their lives matter. Emancipation and Freedom are 2 very different things.
Juneteenth is basically “Victory Day” in the American civil war. 👍 with special attention to why that mattered so much historically. 💜
note: the Union Army had black soldiers there, when they entered Galveston. The slaves might have been happy to hear the white General proclaim them free, but *seeing* black soldiers backing that statement up, hits a little different! 💜
juneteenth? why should anyone care
Nalla kothulu veellu eppatikainaa kothule..donga kothulu
HWC Transgender ministries:
I like the reason for the holiday, but I wasin't off work!
...My BANK was though!
tu y yo sabemos por que estamos aqui aun que no sepamos ingles 😏😏😌
So a year or two passed before you got the word free. Was Kanye right?
The fact that it is on fathers day is so ironic. Happy Fathers Day!
"One shall give his daughter in the proper form, even though she may not have attained the age (nagnikā), to a bridegroom who is of exceptionally distinguished appearance, and her equal (in caste)."
"A seven-year old girl is Gaurī; nine year old is Nagnikā. Ten year old shall be Kanyā; above that she is Rajasvalā."

April 16, 1862 was the day that Lincoln signed the Emancipation Proclamation, making April 16 Emancipation Day. Why do we need another holiday for the same event?
LGBTQRSTUVWXYZ/BLM month...um, okay.
The freedom of black Americans is the freedom of Americans, everyone should celebrate that. Unless you feel as though the term “American” doesn’t cover all of us then this should be an inclusive holiday to you.
July 4th is a day about freedom for everyone, not just for black people pretending only black people were slaves in America.
Juneteenth (short for “June Nineteenth”) marks the day when federal troops arrived in Galveston, Texas in 1865 to take control of the state and ensure that all enslaved people be freed. Confederate General Robert E. Lee had surrendered at Appomattox Court House two months earlier in Virginia, but slavery had remained relatively unaffected in Texas—until U.S. General Gordon Granger stood on Texas soil and read General Orders No. 3: “The people of Texas are informed that, in accordance with a proclamation from the Executive of the United States, all slaves are free!”
The 13th amendment to the Constitution had been ratified a year earlier in the Senate but now it was up to House for final passage. When the final vote was held on January 31, 1865 in the House of Representatives, there were enough "Aye's" to pass.
ALL BUT 4 DEMOCRATS OPPOSED!
Happy Father’s Day!
Longest running African American holiday…. One year 😂
Thank goodness for Juneteenth holiday, otherwise, they would have nothing to do on Father’s Day.
Dear America's rulers: keep rubbing the wounds of the past raw. Maybe you'll thereby distract from the new wounds you cause every day.
Can we get a national holiday for White people that pay taxes and raise their kids in two-parent households?
A very racist holiday
happy fathers day everyone!
Happy absent Father's Day. :)
The nice thing is that "people of color" will have something to celebrate today since well, you know.
No one is celebrating Juneteenth. People love getting a paid holiday and out of respect they bow to the means by which it came. All pay homage to the paid holiday.
The emancipation proclamation didn’t free all slaves. It ensured all slaves in States, counties and parishes that were loyal to Lincoln were kept in slavery.
They will find another day to use to celebrate a pointless day to march up and the streets of non black businesses instead of actually building businesses of their own to celebrate around.
The day the Cleveland Cavilers defeated the Golden State Warriors in game 7 of the 2016 NBA finals and completed the first 3 1 comeback in league history. Delivering the city of Clevelands first championship in 52 years. 216 where yall at?😎🏆
Happy birthday to me
🧍♀“I’m reminded that Juneteenth was brought about because of what Democrats did to black people, enslaving black people, when it was Republicans that freed the black people,”. As we talk about Juneteenth, let’s not neglect to mention that the reason slaves had to be FREED is because the Democrat Party enslaved them🧍
What Fathers? They're not around. There is something incongruous about Father's Day and Juneteenth
Happy Father's day, to all of the fathers that left for cigarettes. And never came back!
Misinformation Task Force:
We should never have a national holiday that needs to be explained.
it's a state celebration, should not be a federal holiday
I can't believe they made this a federal holiday. I am mourning the end of slavery. Now they are running loose causing chaos.
Juneteenth is pathetic.. Is 40 acres and a mule still on the table..?
Dorothy and Toto:
I think that there should be a Federal Holiday celebrating the first Slot Machine to be put inside a Casino. LOL
IDGAF about june tenth or whatever. I DO LOVE holidays so no complaints from me
“If you abide in My word, you are My disciples indeed. And you shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.”
Not a thing. Happy Fathers Day if you still even have one!!!!!
⭐️ SuperSonic ⭐️:
July 4th, 1776 is wayy better.
I give more weight to the soldiers that fought and died for their freedom over the recipients of that freedom. Juneteenth should celebrate the soldiers sacrifice as well as black freedom. A holiday has to be inclusive for all Americans to be valued. Culmination means "the highest or climactic point of something, especially as attained after a long time". The Juneteenth Emancipation Notice, is that culmination of the civil war. I call Juneteenth "Civil War Day". The other issue, even though slaves were now free, they were not U.S. citizens, but illegal aliens. Only their children born after July 9, 1968, after 14th Amendment was ratified, were automatically U.S. citizens. Former slaves could have become U.S. citizens if they became naturalized citizens, but they did not go through any process to become U.S. citizens, so their status remained as illegal aliens and could not vote. I believe blacks that became soldiers (like the Buffalo Soldiers) were naturalized U.S. citizens.
Glenn Van Moffaert:
General Robert E. Lee surrendered his Confederate troops to the Union's Ulysses S. Grant at Appomattox Court House, Virginia, on APRIL 9, 1865, not Juneteenth!
Overseer Of Yahweh:
We should go back to them times, most if them "people" don't deserve to be free.
I dont mind celebrating the day that the 'Republican party ended Democrat Slavery'...It's a day that needs to be remembered and observed!
THE CHIEF WILDHORSE:
Blacks were able to buy land when the trail of tears was happening.
A little fun fact
It should have been a real holiday long ago
