You can’t be a celebrity entertainer in America without at least once saying you’re leaving America behind and moving to another country. They’ve all said it

I'm sure we can do a fundraiser for him to make sure he has enough money for a ticket and for the whole band as well
Thank God it's about if we could only get the rest of Hollywood to do the same.

I’d be impressed if he actually did it. Famous people are all talk.

What a stunning blow it will be if the Green Day singer, whom most of us didn't even know his name, decides to change his citizenship. I hope the country can heal from this.

When the going gets tough, Billy Joe who’s lived a privileged life, moves to Canada. He said it Like it’s a threat😂😂😂
i really hope America can move forward from this tragic announcement
(After 1 month of living in Canada)
Billie: "Umm, maybe I didnt think this through"
Well he's not all wrong on this, I say for anyone that doesn't really agree with what is happening in the USA they too can exercise their freedom to move on to another country as no one is holding anyone here hostage :)

I really hope he follows through. Sick of the empty words, just leave already.
So has he moved forward with this? I can remember every time that a Republican gets elected president most of Hollywood says they are renouncing their citizenship or leaving the US, but as far as I know not a single one of them has ever actually gone through with it. If Billie does it, I'll be impressed, I think he'll be the first celebrity ever to not make this an empty threat
Keith Brandson
Keith Brandson:
The Supreme Court simply viewed the specific language in the Constitution, and ruled that it says nothing that Federally 'guarantees' the right of abortion. And then referred the issue back to each state, so the voters in those states could decide it for themselves. That is all. If Mr. Armstrong wants to renounce citizenship because of his [2022] personal preferences or interpretation of the very simple and clear language in the [1776] US Constitution, (or for any other reason) - of course he is free to do so.
Hope they really do what they say they’re going to do and keep their word, not like all those that said they were leaving to Canada when trump got elected and well more than 5 years later, they’re still here!

Man... i seriously dont know what I'll do if this man leaves.. i mean... he's the glue holding it all together... 🙄
bro him doing this is a good thing
he has a point, with all the things that are happening in the supreme court if he did become a Canadian then he would probably have a better life

Another problem that solved itself, thanks Billie.
This guy has always done a good job aligning himself with the most obvious “anti establishment” position over the decades…so predictable and boring…absolutely nothing punk about any of it
It's strange but when people of certain notoriety make these "big" statements they usually don't follow through. Hopefully, he'll follow through so it's not an empty statement for attention in the moment.

I was there, it wasn’t about the case, it’s because the crowd was amazing, chanting after the song finished. Hes just showing appreciation to the crowd.
This'll be fun to watch - I don't think he realises how hard it is to renounce US citizenship!

“I’m not kidding you’re gonna see a lot of me in the coming days” means that he’s touring there. He was joking. He’s been saying the same shit since 2004. I don’t know why the media suddenly latched onto this.
Can someone please explain to me how it’s ok for a artist like billy Joe to ride the coats of American culture when it’s convenient for him … but when we need a prominent voice like his we get a “Eff America” .

i mean, i love green day and billie joe armstrong, and am also very pro-choice, but i think this is kinda dumb. the real punk thing to do would be to fight and try to make a real change, not just leave.

Nothing says Punk Rock like having the most milquetoast, mainstream, government approved political opinions. You go Billy, you go.
Oooh he's so "edgy". It's so brave for a millionaire has-been "punk rocker" to renounce his citizenship because he doesn't like the current political climate. It's so much more brave than staying and you know, fighting for what you believe in. I don't love a lot of what's going on in the US right now, but this is my would be a cold day in HELL that I renounce being an American. But this guy has been living in a celebrity bubble for the last 30 years so it's not surprising that he would think this is like some sort of heroic stance to take. Later gator...don't you come back now, ya hear
This reminds me of when Michael Scott yells “I DECLARE BANKRUPTCY!!!”

Memo to Billie Joe Armstrong: don’t let the door hit you in the ass on your way out. Get lost.
I was in Prague a few weeks ago and went to see Korn in concert. Opening for them was Fever 333, and all they did in between their terrible songs was go on about white supremacy and guns in the U.S. I really wish bands would just stick to singing music and stay out of it…

When Billie Joe Armstrong was singing a song named American idiot, AXL Rose was singing a song named Chinese Democracy. Just ten years ago I believe that these were the spirits of rock and punk. And now I know it's all about money cause nothing has been changed. People just needs music to vent their dissatisfaction. But when the sun rises again, life is still all the same.

He lives in California, where abortion access is easy to come by and can legally be performed at any stage of the pregnancy, even if the baby can survive outside of the womb.

Meanwhile in Canada, while legal in all stages of pregnancy, no abortion providers perform abortions beyond 23 weeks and 6 days.

Fun songwriter but not a smart guy at all.

That's fine, I won't miss him. I won't trash my Green Day CDs, because I'm not a melting snow flake like him, but his personal opinions mean nothing to me. If he does, can't wait to hear about what he finds about the laws where he goes. Bless his heart.
Jeff Caldwell
Jeff Caldwell:
I think after he has a chance to cool down he'll probably re-think that one over. From a recent report, I've seen about renouncing U.S. citizenship, it usually takes years to do, and when it is complete, if you ever change your mind and want your U.S. citizenship back you are pretty much screwed. They say it's pretty much impossible to get it back, It will be like you never existed in the U.S. his family and those close to him may have a difference of opinion.
Lewis Barnes
Lewis Barnes:
He should also renounce the millions of US dollars he has made over the years.
One emotional wreck down, a few more million to go!! 😎
Honestly as a south korean it is really hilarious to see that canadians are saying that don't come to canada lol
Do people not know how citizenship works? If he's not a citizen of a different country he can't renounce it, you are not allowed to be left stateless.
