I've lived in Shanghai for 10 years, and yeah, Wechat is a game changer. It's only really become what it is now in the last two years. You can pretty much do everything, and I mean everything, from it. I have friends who basically haven't used cash, debit or a credit card in months to pay for things. Everything is done through Wechat on their phone. It's cool and kind of weird at the same time.

It’s incredible what can be done when there’s no privacy rights. I wonder how all this info is used in their freaky social credit system - that friend that was slacking off at work could lose social credit and more of that could make their life a lot worse. Dystopian

I live and work in China. Wechat (weixin) does do a lot of amazing things. However, people do not use Wechat for everything. Instead most people here use a variety of apps to get things done. That is because those other niche apps outperform Wechat. For example, people do not usually use Wechat to meet people or to find a restaurant or to pay for dinner. Most people use other apps for that. In addition, there is probably less than 10 restaurants in all of China that operate using only an app. I have never seen one until this video. I do use another app that is just as popular for some cool things. I pay my rent, utilities, store purchases, and take out with the Alipay app.

The New York Times manufacturing consent. The NYT comment about human rights is laughable. Obama just made sure that we will not be able to read the senate torture report for 12 years. America tortured hundreds of people. Many of those people were later proven to be innocent. Some of those people died while being tortured. Yet, according to the NYT we need to be concerned with China's human rights violations.

So you mean controlled by American companis is better than controlled by Chinese company. As an American, it's true, people always believe the people winthin the same group. But for Chinese, they have same willing.

There is only one country refuse to be controlled by United States, it's China. All the rest , include UK, France, German, Russia, they all gave all their data freedom to United State and pray the US is mercy. They believe they have freedom on internet.

Guess what? Rember PRISM? When you are using the Tweeter, Facebook, google, etc, all the data will go through the router in US. All your data have been collected by US goverment no matter if there is a WeChat or not. Fo US goverment , there is no privacy on internet at all. United State has already use the collected data to kill Ben Latin and then Sadam, and even millions of people in Middle East. Thanks the tweeter, facebook, google The US govment successfully put at least 4 countries in revelotion and drop the country to chaos. People in these country got much worse life even though they got freedom. Of cause, under the name of justice. It's doesn't matter you and me. But I don't believe none of the millions people is innocent. Will the died guy apprecieate to this kind of freedom?

The US will change the Leader every 4 years, who knows what will happen on next leader? Is it more dangerous than a company? Don't forget Hilter is a voted leader too.

China maybe want to control their citizen, but the United States wants to control the whole world and named it as world leader. Do we really need a leader country?
