Are you going all digital next gen because with the ps5 installs are instant ? 🤔

For this video we’re going to dive into 3 topics one around the ps5 possibly getting delayed because of the main site update removing 2020 the Vp of epic praising ps5 and how they had to rewrite parts of their engine with it specifically in mind and the latest information on when the ps5 event could happen and what’s Sony’s latest official information on it!

Physical is the way for me, i feel like i dont actually own my digital games because i cant do what i want with them. If i wanted to give them away or trade them i cant unless i have the disc... they should give u the ability to gift digital games 1 time atleast so u wont feel like u are stuck with games even if u happen to not like them and know someone that would like it

Give me the live worlds. Imagine the unreal 5 tech applied to a city setting where you can see every dent in the asphalt, every brick in the walls all the pipes and cables running through the city with neon light bouncing of of it all. Also going into every building (which probably requires a lot of randomly generated assets). I'm wondering how this is supposed to all fit on a Bluray disk tho. Like can assets be generated out of preexisting materials. Like you barely need textures when the models are so detailed couldn't you just assign a material to it? Idk tho

The architechture poses an interesting factor.
Design of games for suspence, subtlty, and specific atmospheric effect. If PS5 loads things so fast the way developers make the games will have to slightly change to account for this.
Wow this will be a amazing next gen.
My only concern is expanded storage price and capacity size.
The storage has to be enough to contain all our ps4 massive file size digital games as well as have more room for the ps5 gen games.
I hope sony doesnt forget that we want our full ps4 libraries of games installed to access at a moments notice.
So they better have 4, 6, 8 TB expanded storage. No one wants to have to choose what games are installed and which are not.

I think that Sony will only wait until the whole George Floyd and BLM thing has calmed down a little. If that takes one week then Sony will do the event in about one week, but if the riots and chais are going on for much longer then we will just have to wait longer.
Sam Adams
Sam Adams:
Sony should sell one-time use cards that serve as a “download token” or sorts. You plug it in, the game installs, you take it out. That card is tied to your system and you can reinstall from it later, or you can re-download from the store if you lose the card.

File sizes are only gonna go up and ISPs across the globe dont seem to even care about keeping up with large download speeds.

Surely it’s “near instant INSTALLS” as my PS5 won’t make my internet connection any better so even if it installs instantly I have still got to wait on the dl. Anyway I guess much the same as PS4 some physical and some digital for me!

CycloneFox
CycloneFox:
Installs won't be exactly instant. They will be faster for two reasons: No fragmentation, meaning no need to have the exact same data order on disc as you did on PS4 where installs and patches take so long, because the installer needs to defragment the HDD everytime new data gets patched in to always guarantee the same loading speeds or streaming speed in open world games on every PS4. The other reason is presumably an even faster BluRay drive (PS4s is already very fast) as well as of course the pure read/write speed of the SSD.
So it will be faster, yes. But the good old act of copying the data from either the BluRay to the SSD or the copying from the internet server to your SSD will still be quite slow in comparison and will remain to not be instant. As soon as the data is on the SSD, everything will be super instant. Way more instant than on PCs or other devices using an SSD thanks for PS4s achitecture. But whether you download the data from a server or copy it from a disc will pretty much not matter at all depending on your internet speed, server-workload, etc.

My decision whether I buy digital or physical depends on rights-management, accessibility, the need of multiplayer-functionality and family sharing. In general I prefer to buy single-player games on disc and multiplayer games digitally. Because we have multiple consoles at home, I love the possibility to share digital games with my wife, but if it's a single player game we don't need family sharing, because we are most likely playing it together at one screen anyway. So I prefer to have access to the game with or without internet. If I go on vacation and take my console into a cabin in the woods without any internet, I want to play it without DRM, so disc is the better option here. But when it's multiplayer we want to share the licence and both play at the same time. There is also no possibility to play the game without internet in the first place, so DRM is no issue. And there is also no need to archive the game so I can pick it back up from the shelf in twenty years, because the servers most likely won't run anyway at that point. So digital is the best option here.

The event was ready to go, I think next week is likely, so that leaks are prevented, but then we could still get a leak before then.
Maybe Sony will confirm it on Monday and do it next Thursday.

The SoC entering mass production, means full assembly of the console isn't that far away either and a delay isn't happening at this point, given what Jim Ryan has said.
The news of the riots seems to be slowing down, I personally haven't seen much being shown them on either UK news, Social Media or YouTube and googling news stories I don't come across as much about protests either. The Officer that killed George Floyd seems to be being brought to justice over what he did and the Police, along with the Masses are acknowledging Racial issues and tensions around the globe.

Sony delaying past next week seems really unnecessary as the fast acknowledgement of BLM has happened. People needed a chance to breath and people around the world have seen and heard what's going on, so it's time to keep moving forward.

The ps6 will be streamed through 6 or 7g like stadia, you will only own the liswnce to play the game. As for ps5 or PS4 I like to collect the good ones on digital if the sale is good and anything less is usually cheaper at a second hand store. Looking into the future though, I feel as if all the old titles will be for cheap. That is if they are still playable, my wallet may regret my early collecting, but I'll have most titles I hope

All physical! Copying the game from the disk is way faster. Also the games aren't bound to a single account.
Stephan Wallace
Stephan Wallace:
It's digital for me. I remember when I first bought my PS4 and a few physical games for it. I was so mad when the games had to be downloaded and installed, plus the patches. I was about to return the PS4, but decided to keep it. At that point, I didn't see the point in buying a physical game if it had to be downloaded anyway. I was primarily physical up to that point. For myself, I'm lucky that I have good internet speeds. So it takes me about the same amount of time, if not a little less just to download the game. Downloading the game includes all of the patches up to that point and ready to play once it's done.

With digital, I save space on my shelves. I can play another game or watch Netflix/Amazon while the game is downloading. And I don't have to worry about scratches or whatever other reason as to why the disk would get damaged to where I can't play it. I'd much rather not have to rebuy the game to play it. Plus I don't have to worry about losing the game either.

I would never go all digital. Imagine creating all digital library and spending hundreds or more on games etc.. and then one day you lose you're account/stolen/banned/etc.
Imagine loosing everything.. and then starting from scratch again?
As long as it's possible I'll be buying games in discs. I can always sell/trade them or simply enjoy looking at them in my bookshelf. Also I enjoy posters/stickers/manuals/etc.

To have a feeling I own something I have to be able to hold it in my hands period.

Also I put way more time and try to get more achievements and might even get DLCs.

I fully support digital gaming like Sony PS Now & Xbox Ultimate game pass. (Yh i have them both)
But I would never go digital only.
I don't care if games are in disc for all I care they could be in memory/flash/usb cards or anything else I think disc itself is old and should be replaced same we did with our phones and 3.5mm headphone jack.

Just my humble opinion.

Yes Epic had to rewrite the i/o configuration because the SSD streamed data faster than the GPU could process it. It doesn’t sound like a very balanced system and we will unlikely see any benefits outside of load times if that GPU can not keep up with the SSD.

I'm hesitating whether going physical or digital. I've been always into physical.
I like physical but once you are playing you just forget about the copy if it is digital or physical, besides the most important thing, the noise it makes physical.
Considering I will be buying PS5 at launch, I'm thinking about digital, it makes muh less noise and there's great discounts, you never lose your game. I don't want my PS5 fat sound like a plane within 6 years.
What do you think?
Robert R
Robert R:
I'm saying this as someone who intends to get PS5, and is 99% disinterested in Xbox.
PS5 is great and all, but these quoutes are silly, and making it sound way more awesome than it it is. It's not like rewriting some code, is something mindblowing.
Kind of reminds me when i wanted to batch-render bunch of armors, and used a script to start rendering a new file, when the previous one was done - but the batch rendering process was slower than rendering them one by one, so i asked a friend who works as programmer, to look at the script - after he tweaked the script, it was actually faster than manual, which is kind of crazy, since the script doesn't have any impact on the rendering itself.
I guess it's something like that here - PS5 has a different architecture, cause they don't want to focus on backwards Compatibility etc, so they are tweaking some code for that; it's not necesserily that PS5 is uber powerful, it's just that this coding wasn't necessery before.
Ofc it's still nice to hear PS5 is really fast, and can get rid of loading screens/tunnels, or at least greatly cut down on it; loading screens are what i hate the most in games 😣 well and other ppl 💩🙊💩🙉💩🙈💩

Sleepy Candy
Sleepy Candy:
I’ve had to go mainly digital for a few reasons.

1- I travel a lot, and being able to only have to take the console and not a box+ of games with it helps a lot.
2- There are children in the house that cannot take care of discs for their life and have ruined many of the discs for my older consoles.
3-ease of being able to switch between multiple games without having to search the shelf for 10 minutes.
4-I’m running out of shelf space.

I still get physical copies for games that I really like, even though I may never open them as I get them both digitally and physically, but 90% of my games have had to go digital only.
